がんは、体の細胞ががん化して増殖するというシンプルな理解だけではその増殖の過程を理解することはできません。がん化した細胞とがん細胞の周囲にある細胞との相互作用が、がん化を推し進めることが明らかになってきたからです。そこでがん微小環境という概念が提唱されました。
