Exactly! When we categorize the nervous system into the central nervous system(CNS) and the peripheral nervous system (PNS), we’re essentially dividing it based on anatomical location and function. For example, when we talk about motor neurons of the somatic nervous system, which control voluntary muscle movements, we recognize that their cell bodies are located within the CNS (in the spinal cord or brainstem), but their axons extend out into the PNS to reach skeletal muscles. So, in a sense, we are conceptually dividing a single neuron into its different components—the cell body within the CNS and the axon extending into the PNS—when we discuss the broader organization of the nervous system.
