Cabell Publishing Predatory Reports

自分が愛読している科学新聞（科学新聞社）の2023年3月24日（金）号の第一面のトップ記事は、「悪徳ジャーナルの見分け方」でした。その記事でアメリカのCabell Publishing社のPredatory Reportsが紹介されていました。これは有料サービスのため、このCabell Publishing社がどのジャーナルをハゲタカジャーナル認定しているのかは定かでありません。しかし最近SNSで何かと話題のMDPI社のジャーナルがどのような扱いを受けているのかが気になりました。

In the database Cabells, listing predatory journals, MDPI is not included, but in Publication Forum it is classified in level 0 as a publisher. https://libraryguides.helsinki.fi/c.php?g=463129&p=5104277

上のヘルシンキ大学図書館のウェブサイトの情報によれば、MDPIはCabellのPredatory Reportsには含まれていないようです。ヘルシンキ大学はMDPIと契約しているようですが、同時に、MDPIの個々のジャーナルの評価に関しては、投稿する研究者自身で精査するように促していました。

最近、SNSで知りましたがhttps://predatoryreports.org/というウェブサイトが独自のプレダトリージャーナルリストを作成し公開しているようです。ここに挙げられた出版社の一つMDPI社が、これに関して反論しています。

Scholars have reported a suspicious website (predatoryreports.org) that has made false claims against the legitimacy of MDPI journals. The anonymous website in question lacks transparency and rigor in its evaluation criteria, and has an apparent bias against MDPI and open access publishing.
